'True Blood' Season 3 Gets An Official Premiere Date!

According to our good pal (otherwise known as Wikipedia), "The number 13 is associated with bad luck in some countries, and even has a specifically recognized phobia, Triskaidekaphobia." Well, throw that definition out the window because thanks to the folks in Bon Temps, that numeral should now be considered very lucky!

Why is that you ask? Oh because on Sunday, June 13, 2010, season three of the hit HBO series "True Blood" will premiere!! This is so exciting for oh-so-many reasons (you know, besides the fact that Alexander Skarsgard will finally return — naked — to our living rooms), but because we don't have enough time or space to list them all, just know that this chapter of the show will flaunt a badass new werewolf (who comes complete with real wolves), a new boy toy for Lafayette, a new girl for boy toy Jason Stackhouse, an "erotic connection" between Sam and Bill and, last but not least, cameos by Godric!!

'True Blood' Roundup: Updates on Lorena

It's no secret that Lorena, Bill's maker, is one of the kidnappers suspected by True Blood fans who could have possibly abducted Bill on the second season finale of the HBO vampire series. While her portrayer, Mariana Klaveno, won't confirm this theory and won't divulge any details, she does give some clues as to what's in store for her character in season 3, which kicks off on June 13.

Plenty of Screen Time

Lorena will significantly get more screen time in the third season of True Blood and most of her scenes will involve Bill. "Yes, we do spend a good deal of time together in season three," Klaveno tells MTV's Hollywood Crush. "I'm hoping that the fans will be a little bit surprised by it, because there will be some new dynamics in our relationship that are new and [have to deal] with that cliffhanger." Could this be a yet another clue to Bill's mysterious disappearance?

A Different Side of Lorena

Not exactly, according to Klaveno. In fact, viewers may even see Lorena in a different light this season. "I think you'll see some sides of Lorena that will surprise you," she reveals. "She'll be in certain situations where you think she'll do something, and she will not [do what you expect]"

More Heat with Bill

Whether Klaveno is referring to scenes in flashbacks or in the present, fans can definitely expect more heat between Bill and Lorena. "I think you can definitely expect much more turbulence between them," she said. "But it's not out of the realm of possibility for them to see each other in new ways. I don't know if they'll ever be at peace with each other, but there might be some real heartfelt connection."

True Blood: Season 3 Spoilers

True blood may have wrapped up its second season but it left us with enough questions to ponder on until the show returns for season 3. Who took Bill? What is Sookie? Will Sam finally meet his real parents? What will happen to Jessica and Hoyt? We won't know for sure until True Blood returns in June. It's going to be a long wait, two excruciating months to be exact but, luckily, I've stumbled upon some spoilers to pass the time.

Take note, however, that some of these spoilers are not confirmed by the network so read at your own risk.

The Characters:

Sookie

* She's not entirely human that's for sure. Series creator Alan Ball won't tell exactly what she is but assures fans that it will be revealed next season. "Sookie has a stronger genetic predisposition in another direction. People who have read the books know exactly what I'm talking about. People who haven't, it will be revealed," Ball explained. Based on the books, however, Sookie is a fairy.

* Sookie's search for Bill will lead her to a werewolf bar, according to Entertainment Weekly.


Eric

* The Viking vamp was missing for the most part of the second season finale but Alan Ball tells Entertainment Weekly there's a reason why and assures fans that Eric will be a prominent character in season 3. And once he resurfaces, he'll be making lots of sexy time with tremendously hot and bold Yvetta, Fangtasia's new Czechoslovakian dancer.

* It has also been revealed that part of Eric's storyline this season involves a revenge plot.

Tara

* Tara hasn't been so lucky when it comes to the matters of the heart. This season, however, she's getting her very own vampire buddy in the form of Franklin Mott, who is described as very very sexy and over-protective. But she's not the only one on cloud nine because as it turns out, her ever-distraught mom turns to the church for comfort and "maybe a little more" in the form of honorable Reverend Daniels.


Jason

* Jason will find himself in an embarrassing situation when two NYU girls, Jen and Missy, try to get him into the sack. He also gets a roommate in the form of Hoyt.

Lafayette

* We will be seeing more and more of Lafayette in season 3 as he gets vulnerable not just because he's afraid of Eric. He also gets a boyfriend in the form of Kevin Alejandro's Jesus Velasquez and a visit from his mother in the form of Emmy-winning actress Alfre Woodard! Series creator Alan Ball tells Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, "Lafayette, for all his fierceness, has built a big wall around his heart and is not particularly inclined to be emotionally vulnerable. Jesus is going to try his best to knock that wall down. But there is a bigger and more dangerous reason Jesus is drawn to Bon Temps, one that will be revealed over time."


Andy

* He'll find out that he is related to somebody and it will totally shock him when he discovers who it is.


Godrick

* The vampire may have committed suicide by sunlight but he may still appear in the coming season in flashback scenes with Eric.


Queen Sophie-Anne

* Queen Sophie-Anne may not have come across scary when she was first introduced in the second season but Ball says she will be in season 3. "You don't want to introduce a character you're going to see later and blow your wad up front. All I can say is keep watching. It will make sense," Ball explained of Queen Sophie-Anne who will return for the new season but not as a series regular.


Arlene

* After a string of bad luck when it comes to love, it looks like Arlene is finally going to get her happy ending. Alan Ball reveals to TV Guide that she and current love interest Terry "will make a surprising discovery that will bring them closer together." In other words, expect another addition to the Fowler household!

* Carrie Preston also tells Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that "something very unexpected is going to happen with [her] character Arlene... [She] might just be nervous enough about the supernatural characters around her that she will try to do something about it. I think she is going to try to figure out a way to protect herself. She gets very upset. She doesn't think vampires should be around children."


Russell Edgington

* Tony winner Denis O'Hare has been cast to play Russell Edgington, the King of Mississippi. There's no word yet on how far the series will deviate from the books, but based on the Charlaine Harris novels, Russell is described as the perfect southern gentleman who prefers men. O'Hare joins season 3 as one of the regulars and is expected to make his debut early on.


Werewolf Alcide Herveaux

* Joe Manganiello, who is perhaps best known for playing bar keeper Owen on One Tree Hill, has been cast as Alcide, who will be summoned by Eric to help Sookie on her search for Bill. He also serves as Sookie's new love interest this season.


Debbie Pelt

* This character has been tagged as "bad news." She's the ex-girlfriend of werewolf Alcide and is played by Brit Morgan.


Shocking Plots:

The Bombshell Secret

Ever since Queen Sophie-Anne graced the second season of True Blood, Bill and Sookie fans have been haunted with a theory from the Charlaine Harris books that would certainly destroy their favorite vampire-human couple: that Bill is working for the Queen and he came to Bon Temps to seduce Sookie with ulterior motives. It's certainly an issue that would divide True Blood fans as this will push Sookie right into the arms of Eric, and while series creator Alan Ball hasn't really followed the novels to the letter, he isn't completely shutting out the idea either.

"It's certainly something that I found really compelling in the books," Ball told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello of Bill's deep dark secret. "I was like, 'Wow.' But I can't really tell you what I'm going to do story-wise. So much of the appeal of the show depends on the element of surprise."

"I try to stay out of how the fans are responding to the show," he added. "I have to tell the story that I think is the most interesting story. Certainly, the main ingredient in drama is conflict and revelations. For every person who loves Bill and wants him and Sookie to just be in love always, there's another person who's like, 'I'm sick of Bill. He's such a wuss. I like Eric. He's dangerous.' Especially when you're working on a show like this with the kind of palette and the colors you use; you want it to be continually surprising and shocking. Not for the sake of being shocking, but that's part of the fun."

Sookie and Eric, will they or won't they?

Season 2 left fans with a cliffhanger that saw Bill being abducted just before Sookie was supposed to accept his marriage proposal. Now that Bill is seemingly and temporarily out of the picture, we are now left wondering if Eric and Sookie will finally get together in season 3. But Ball tells TV Squad, "I can't tell you if they're going to get together, because that's going to ruin the anticipation. But, if you've been following season two, he's definitely been doing things to make her more vulnerable and more susceptible to him. And he does want her, he's just not sure why. I think it's deeper than just, 'I want her because Bill Compton has her.' Although that's part of it, because Eric is a total alpha-dog."

Same-Sex Action

Lafayette and love interest Jesus won't be the only one getting a "special bond" this season. It turns out Sam and Bill will also have an erotic connection.

Casting News:

* Tommy Mickens will be introduced as a scruffy but attractive man in his early '20s who just so happens to be Sam Merlotte's long-lost younger brother. According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, he'll be showing his "unadorned backside, which, with Sam's similar feral tendency towards the 'full moon,' proves that they really must be related after all." According to SpoilerTV, Tommy works at a Tire Depot in Arkansas and comes from a family with a bad reputation with debt. [Update] Marshall Allman has been cast as Tommy.

* Beginning the second episode, Talbot, a sarcastic vampire with a model's looks, will surface as a "guide of sorts" for the kidnapped Bill. [Update]Theo Alexander signed on for the role.

* A character named Jesus Velasquez, an "unordinary orderly with a heart to match his good looks," will also introduced in the third season. He also happens to be gay! [Update] Kevin Alejandro has been cast for the character that will also serve as Lafayette's love interest.

* A guy named Coot will lead a pack of rednecks this season. [Update] Ugly Betty actor Grant Bowler has been cast as Coot.

* An elderly woman who moves with the help of a walker mistakes Bill for her son

* Caroline Compton will appear in a flashback scene in the third episode of the season 3 in which she uses a shotgun on an intruder only to realize that it's her dead husband Bill. [Update] Shannon Lucio is taking over the part from Amber Dawn Landrum, who appeared on the show's first season.

* Lindsay Pulsipher has been cast as Crystal, a mysterious and haunting beautiful young woman who shares an "electric connection" with Jason (Ryan Kwanten).

* Heroes actress Dawn Olivieri has been cast as Janice Herveaux, the sister of werewolf Alcide.

* An African American bar bouncer will give some unexpected bad news to Alcide regarding his fiance Debbie.

* According to Entertainment Weekly, Mariana Klaveno is reprising her role as Bill's maker, Lorena, for roughly six episodes.

* Lauren Bowles joins the cast as Merlotte's new waitress.

'True Blood' Casting Roundup

Fans can look forward to another new character on True Blood when it returns for its third season on June 13 and based on the casting description, he's going to serve as yet another eye candy in the town of Bon Temps.

While the show hasn't found the perfect actor to fill in the shoes of the said character, Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reveals that the new hunk is going to appear in a recurring capacity. His name is Tony and he'll be serving as a "hustler whose drug addiction and resemblance to bloodsucker Talbot make him easy pickins for the vamp's obsessed mate, Russell."

Meanwhile, here's someone who's not coming on board for True Blood's new season. Katee Sackhoff, who recently departed 24, reveals why she's not joining the cast as Alcide's psycho ex, Debbie Pelt.

"I am a huge fan of True Blood," Sackhoff tells Entertainment Weekly. "It's a phenomenal show and [exec producer] Alan Ball is a f--ing genius. But I wanted more security than one season of something, so I rolled the dice with [Boston's Finest]. This entire business is about rolling the dice and hoping you made the right decision. I almost didn't take 24 to do my own series on USA Network, and that worked out."

True Blood fans already know who nabbed the role of Debbie: ex-Middleman star Brit Morgan.
