Q&A with Alexander Skarsgård



Q: You miss things when you are away from Sweden, but is there anything you miss when you are away from the U.S.?

AS: Yes, lots of things. I miss the intensity of New York, the sunsets in California and the mountains of Colorado.

Q: We’ve seen you dressed as a woman in Kill Your Darlings and recently, we’ve seen your brother Gustaf getting in touch with his feminine side in the Koop – I See A Different You music video. Please tell us between you or your brother, whom is the most attractive, dressed as a woman, in your opinion?

AS: I haven’t seen my brother dressed as a woman, but I doubt anything can be scarier than me in high heels and make up..

Q: I`ve read somewhere that you not only are a football fan, but also play football yourself. Where (defence, midfield, striker, goalie etc) and how (aggressive, creative, intelligent, physical, crybaby, technical etc) do you play?

AS: I love to play, but I’m not very good. I run a lot, usually pretty far from where the ball is…

Q: Which would you say, was the most moving work of art that you have ever enjoyed, whether it’s on screen, page, music, or any other artistic form?

AS: An old Swedish movie called “Kvarteret Korpen” by Bo Wideberg has probably moved me more than any other work of art.

Q: We know you like dogs. What about horses? Do you have any experience riding and or training horses?

AS: Not much even though my family has had horses in Sweden for over ten years.

Q: How do you feel about your adoring fans creating websites dedicated to you? (Yes, I had to add this one.)

AS: Very, very, very flattered.

Q: What side of the bed do you sleep on? A bit of a saucy question but not too bad, right?

AS: Right, but willing to negotiate.

Q: What’s on your ipod? Do you have any music suggestions?

AS: Lots of the Cure at the moment.

Q: My burning question…What do you eat for breakfast?

AS: Oatmeal with banana and berries, tea and orange juice.

Q: You’ve worked on the African continent for Generation Kill and Cuppen. How did you spend your time there when you weren’t busy with filming?

AS: Sleeping. Would love to go back when I don’t have to work as much so I can explore it more.

Q: There are many of us fans who have husbands or boyfriends who are jealous of the attention we pay to you and the characters you play, especially Eric from True Blood in my specific case. What would you say to these jealous men if you had the chance?

AS: I’m not very good looking in real life.

Q: Since I am a teacher, I must ask. What was your favorite subject and why?

AS: Geography. Always wanted to know what was on the other side of the hill…

Q: If you had to pick one character to play from Star wars, who would you pick? (Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Yoda etc)

AS: Chewbacca.

Q: In the interview that you did for uinterview.com, you mentioned turning down roles in Sweden because many of them had you playing the heart throb and you didn’t want to be type cast. So, my question is this: If you knew ahead of time the popularity of the character you play on True Blood, would you still have accepted the role?

AS: Definitely. There’s so much more to Eric than that. He’s not a pretty boy, he eats pretty boys..

Q: What was it about Stig Dagerman’s story “To Kill a Child” that inspired you to direct a short film of it?

AS: It’s on of the most heart-gripping short stories I’ve ever read and I wanted more people to get a chance to experience it.

Q: How did it feel to be Alexander Skarsgård meeting Jonas Stark?

AS: It felt like a pink fuzzy dream covered in sweet chocolate.

Q: What would PlayGirl magazine need to offer you for you to consider being the centerfold in classic Eric style (fangs and fur)?

AS: A chicken burrito and a pint of strawberry ice cream.

Q: Do you have any pets in the U.S.?

AS: No. would love to get a dog at some point, but I travel too much right now.

Q: I teach 6th grade and have several students (11-13 years old) who want to pursue acting. I believe you have stated that you were around that age when you decided to take a break from it. With that said, if you could go back in time to when you were that age and gave yourself one piece of advice, what would it be? Or, what advice would you give a 12 year old who wants to pursue acting?

AS: Don’t think of it as work when you’re 12. Think of it as play. I’m 32 and I still don’t know what to do when I grow up.
