Actress Evan Rachel Wood will soon be stealing the scene on HBO's True Blood, as she's been crowned with a pivotal role in the series. It has been confirmed that creator Alan Ball cast her as the vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne.

According to sources, Wood will be appearing on two episodes, which will air towards the end of True Blood's upcoming sophomore season. It sounds like a cliffhanger is on the way, an intriguing lead to season 3. Also, the role of Sophie-Anne is a major part, and we can all expect to see her in more storylines in the future.

But just who is Sophie-Anne? To those not familiar with the books, here's the information you need to know. Wood's character is actually a 500-year-old vampire, who obviously doesn't look a day after 20. However, she's been in the blood business for centuries.

Straight from the romance-laden land of France, Sophie-Anne is as charming as she's ruthless, as well as very wise. A consummate diplomat, this vampire royal has the deepest connections to history's most famous people, some of which you wouldn't expect.

Of course, Evan Rachel Wood is a natural choice for the character. While she's made a name for herself on the big screen, she actually started off on television series. During the 1990s, she was cast in the short-lived horror satire American Gothic, taking on the recurring character Rose Russell.

Wood's next TV stint was on ABC's family drama Once and Again. There, she portrayed the supporting role of the shy and fragile Jessie Sammler. The actress then gravitated towards film, taking on parts in 1998's Digging to China and Practical Magic. It was in 2002 that she gained more popularity, getting the lead part in Little Secrets. The next year, she was seen and praised for her work in the controversial indie film Thirteen. This earned her nominations for both a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

Other films she had roles in include Running with Scissors, Across the Universe, The Upside of Anger and 2008's The Wrestler. Don't forget to catch her appearance in HBO's vampire drama True Blood, returning this June.

Alan Ball's Louisiana vampiric pot-boiler comes back to the smallscreen June 14th.

According to HBO, deep in the muggy backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the mystery surrounding the serial killer has finally been solved.

Yet a new deadly twist threaten Sookie Stackhouse and everyone around her.

The hit series "True Blood" kicks off its 12-episode second season Sunday, June 14 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), on HBO, followed by other new episodes on subsequent Sundays at the same time.

The show is darkly humorous, laced with sex and sweat as the not-too-distant future is splayed out in vivid color, as outsider vampires have left the blood-sucking closet behind them and walk among the living.

The premise of the series is hinged on the idea that mass-produced synthetic blood has replaced humans as nutritional source. Ostensibly.

The show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and her soul mate, 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

Alan Ball adapted the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

From HBO: A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.

Episode #14: “Keep This Party Going”

Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Sookie is forced to cope with Bill’s obligations to Jessica, as well as the romantic inconveniences the teen vampire’s presence creates. At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes a favorable impression on its ambitious leaders, Steve (Michael McMillian) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), though not on his jealous roommate Luke (Wes Brown). Maryann casts her spell on Merlotte’s patrons, and Sam proves helpless to stop the revelry.

Episode #15: “Scratches”

Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 28 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her. At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect’s anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises. After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

The first season of "True Blood" was a hit with subscribers and critics. USA Today called it “wildly imaginative,” with “one of the best ensembles of the new series,” while Monsters and Critics hailed the show as “a Southern Gothic suck-fest."

She may be a barmaid waiting tables at Merlotte's, but actress Carrie Preston has been keeping herself busy in the entertainment industry. Even though she's filming the acclaimed HBO drama True Blood, she's also working on several projects for her own production company, Daisy 3 pictures. Still, it's the vampires that have gotten her the most attention and she discusses why she thinks so.

Playing the character Arlene Fowler was a crazy experience for Carrie Preston, especially since she's involved in a series derived from books. Despite that, she says True Blood is evidently veering away from the Charlaine Harris storyline and establishing itself as something that could work on its own.

"It's so interesting because they are really departing from the books right now," Preston revealed. "I mean they're sort of keeping the main kind of theme of the second book, but they've already just taken a lot of liberties. They spent the first season really establishing the characters and now they've added all these new characters, and it's getting really wild in there."

Now that the second season is nearing, it was pointed out by her co-star, Alexander Skarsgård that there may be some changes with the True Blood sets. Asked if Merlotte's suffered the same fate, Preston answered: "No, Merlotte's is good, old Merlotte's. I love it in there. It's an amazing set. You really do feel like you're in a bar."

About her character, Arlene, Preston says she is nothing like the person she plays. However, she admits that it was easy to transform herself for her. "I mean I'm not anything like Arlene. Nothing. It all has to be created, which is really fun. I go in the makeup trailer and an hour and a half later, I'm a completely different person."

"She's street smart. You know what I mean?" Preston continued. "Like she's a single mother and she's a survivor. She speaks her mind, and I don't know... I grew up with women like that so I just wanted to honor those women. Also it's a comedic role and I really always feel in my element when I'm doing comedy."

As for the appeal of True Blood, the actress confessed that she'd watch the show even if she wasn't working on the set. "I've always sort of been into sci-fi kind of stuff, so I like it. It's a show I would have watched even if I wasn't on it."
